MAUD COME TO THE 4 AGAINST STONEYWOOD
Maud entertained Superleague newcomers FC Stoneywood on a pitch that had stood up well from the deluge of water over the last few days. The first five minutes went either way until a free kick won by Stoneywood just outside the 18 yard box but the shot went over the bar. A great knocked on ball from Maud's Walker over the Stoneywood defence to Ballard who beat his marker only to be denied by a great save by their keeper to deny Maud the lead. A mistake and a careless pass from Walker allowed Stoneywood to break down the right wing. Crossing in Simpson pushed it out for a corner to nothing. A great through ball found Ballard only again to be denied by a save down low left by the keeper. Again Maud attacked and a cross from A Davidson out on the left was collected off the head of Jamieson by the keeper again denying Maud. Finally in the 28th minute Maud broke the deadlock from a penalty off a handball duly converted by McDonald. Four minutes later Maud doubled their lead when good play out on the left onto Ballard who sent a nice flick over the defence for Ligertwood to head into the back of the net. Slack defending by Maud let Stoneywood break up the right, cutting in the final shot was poor and flew past the right post. Winning a corner from the right, Whyte sent in a wicked cross only to be denied again by Stoneywoods keeper. A late tackle on Rae stopped Maud's attack up the left wing. Jamieson chased a long ball into Stoneywoods box but it was cleared out for a throw in bringing the first half to a close.
Two minutes into the restart a ball down the left was knocked onto Ballard. Cutting it back to A Davidson who set up Whyte who rifled it in from 15 yards. In the 50th minute Maud won a free kick 30 yards out. Passed short to Ligertwood whose low shot flew into the back of the net leaving Stoneywood routed to the spot. A minute later Maud won another free kick from just on the edge of the D circle. Walker sent in a curling shot around the wall only to ricochet off the right side post. Stoneywoods best chance came when a great cross in towards goal fell short of the striker denying him the opportunity to shoot. A Stoneywood attack forced a good save from Simpson who was enjoying a really quiet afternoon. In th 69th minute Stott replaced Ligertwood. In the 73rd minute Jamieson was again denied by Stoneywoods keeper who pulled off another great save. Maud started to relax and played out some good football but didn't manage to increase their score. Running out comfortable winners and another clean sheet Maud can now look forward to next Saturdays game against Nairn St Ninian away with a 2.15pm KO.
