MAUD BACK TO WINNING WAYS
Kicking off in wet conditions against the wind, Maud were looking for the breaks to get back on the winning trail. Lewis were the first to create a chance on goal in the 5th minute when they broke through Maud's midfield, jinxed past the defence but a poor diagonal shot went past the right sided post. Lewis won a free kick about 25 yards out, launched in and deflected off Willox but Cowe got his finger tips to it and cleared over the bar for a corner. Again crossed in and a goal line clearance by Maud kept the score level. Play went from end to end with the ref continually stopping play for niggly little fouls spoiling the flow of play. Maud survived a scare from a Lewis corner crossed over to the unmarked striker who sent the free header over the bar. A Davidson on a run up the left picked up the through ball but was caught offside. Maud won a free kick just outside the Lewis half, crossing the shot in it was punched clear as far as A Davidson whose shot went wide. After a flurry of yellow cards for Lewis Maud won a free kick 21 yards out left of the D. Up stepped Middleton and sent in a low shot past the wall and straight into the back of the net in the 35th minute for Maud to take the lead. After sustaining a Lewis attack Maud counter attacked up the right by Whyte. Laying on a good ball to McKechnie who did everything right but the ball took a bobble just as he fired in the shot and it drifted past the post. Maud went in at half time a goal up but more importantly looking very much in control.
Maud started the second half with a couple of chances and twice being caught offside. Finally their perseverance paid off from a quick throw in from the right onto Willox who laid in a perfect ball for Jamieson to tap in to the net. In the 65th minute Maud won a free kick on the left wing just inside the Lewis half. Launched in by McDonald who had came on at the expense of Whyte it flew to the far post to be flicked in by the foot of Middleton to complete his brace of the afternoon. In the 68th minute Paul of Lewis got his marching orders for a second yellow followed a minute later by Jamieson of Maud for his second yellow. Frustration set in to Lewis as Park in goals received a yellow for kicking the ball away in anger. Middleton nearly got his hat trick from a free kick that swerved past the right post. In the 83rd minute Maud won a corner kick from the right, crossed in to the outside edge of the 6 yard line it was well headed into the back of the net by B Davidson. As the clocked ticked down Maud took their eye of the game and allowed Lewis to pull one back through play by N Davidson. An excellent game by Maud who thoroughly deserved the win and now look forward to playing current league leaders Sunnybank at home with a 1.30pm ko.
