Maud 0 - 1 Lewis United

GA Engineering Inter Regional Cup

Not much of a report today, mainly because it was pishing rain and a howling gale and my paper turned to mash !

Shaun and Gibby started up front with Steven Hart at right back, Razor was moved to the middle and Bruce returned to the heart of the defence and Scott Cowe making his debut in goal, so it was a changed team from the last couple of week, which had to be given some performances lately.

We started with the pissing rain and wind at our backs but really we didn’t force the issue and too many balls were over the top where they just ran away from the forwards. In fact our first shot was a hooked effort from Shaun outside the box after 26 minutes which went well wide. Just after then a bit of joined up footie starting from the left ended with a ball into the box from Zander but even with Richie in attendance it was belted clear. GIbby had pulled a hammy 10 minutes from the end of the half and was replaced by Dane. Right at the end of the half Scott had to make 2 excellent point blank saves to keep us in it.

The conditions worsened in the 2nd half with even more rain but ater 8 minutes we got a free kick on the edge of their box which was hit hard and low by Jason but it was saved at the foot of the post. After 18 minutes Richie got in behind on the right and laid the ball back to Steven who whipped in a great cross that Dane got his head to but it cannoned off the crossbar.  Ten minutes later Razor had an effort from outside the box that was again hard and low but again the keeper saved. Then with 10 minutes to go the sucker punch, a long ball into our box was headed clear by Richard, but the ball came off the top of his head giving him a spell of dizziness that the ref didn’t check up on, the ball flew out for a corner and while some reorganising was going on the hit a low in swinging corner that seemed to be coming toward the penalty spot, however the wind whipped it back in to goal and as Ush had just come off the post the ball then flew in behind him, as he tried to get to it, the ball hit him and flew inside the post for their goal. It was a cruel way to get beat and a freak goal was probably the only way this game was going to be won.

The lads did put a lot of effort into the game, more so than the last 2 weeks, but Lewis played the conditions better, especially in the 2nd half where they had a few low hard shots on target that caused us problems, something we didn’t do in the first half.

Still next week the lads are going to have to work even harder if we are going to get any sort of result against Bonnyrig Rose, should be interesting !!!
