My Match Report

Bit of short one this week because the conditions were so crap, football wasn’t of the best standard ! It was blowing a howling gale across the pitch and it took both teams a while to get to grips with it. However on 9 minutes Dane got wide right and put a cross across penalty box where Gibby tried an acrobatic overhead kick, and failed ! Still for an auld mannie it was a good effort !! It really took us until the 25 minutes to get a shot anywhere on goal when we got a free kick on the edge of the box, it was not a good one and came back out but Razor collected it about 20 yards out and tried a shot that the keeper held onto. On 30 minutes it was Richies (without the ‘t’ !) turn to have a pop from distance but again the keeper saw it coming and saved it.On 38 mins yet another long rance effort, this time from Jas but his daisycutter was easily held. Just before half timw a good bit of footwork between Richie and Dane in their box ended with a Richie  shot being blocked.

And that was it for half time, not memorable but not surprising really.

They came out of the traps quicker than we did at the start of the 2nd half and Puds had to make 2 saves in the first 4 minutes to keep the clean sheet. By this time the wind had increased and with their 5 in the middle it was difficult to get any decent football going and most of the play was on the far side of the pitch. Again it wasn’t until the 26th minute of the 2nd half that we got another chance when Richie blocked a clearance outside their box and then laid it off to Dane who ran onto it in the box but the keeper somehow managed to save it. Then with 13 minutes left, another ball into their box to Dane, and this time the wind didn’t carry it away from him and he got the chance to put it over the keeper and into the net, there was a horrible moment when it looked like the wind would keep it out, but it was in and we were 1 - 0 up. That was it really, again because of the conditions neither team really threatened much and we ran out winners.

It was a hard working performance today against a team more interested in not losing and a wind that made flowing football impossible but it was good to get the 3 points.

MAUD BEAT UNITED AND THE WEATHER

Maud kicked off this game in very blustery conditions with the wind blowing across the park. It took both teams some time to get accustomed to this and nothing happened until the ninth minute. Ballard out on the right sent in a cross which Stephen tried to meet with an overhead kick only to miss the opportunity. The game went from end to end and Maud nearly paid the penalty from a mistake in defence but Hall Russell couldn't capitalise and sent the ball past the right post. It took until the 25th minute before Maud managed to trouble Hall Russell. Winning a free kick out on the edge of the 18 yard box, Walker sent in a low shot which the defence cleared as far as Rae. Connecting beautifully he sent in the shot straight into the keepers arms. Attacking again, Davidson after beating a couple of players sent in a cross to Ligertwood who forced a save out of the Hall Russell keeper. As a defender went down inside his own box, Maud's cries of hand ball were waved aside by the ref. Just before half time Maud missed a couple of chances to take the advantage at the interval.

Hall Russell came out for the second half on fire and forced 2 good chances that really tested Simpson in goals. A good ball up to Stephen out left, back to Walker whose cross in was collected by the keeper. Willox then replaced Stephen. Ballard collected a loose ball out right and went one on one with the keeper. Blasting in the shot, the keeper guessed correctly and managed to block the shot out for a corner which came to nothing, Maud's best chance of the game so far. A good ball down the right wing from Hall Russell was crossed in but Simpson was quicker to the ball and dealt with the danger. Good attacking play by Maud in the 78th minute paid off when again Ballard picked up a deflected ball, Going past his marker he ran in towards the keeper and keeping his composure he calmly picked his spot and slotted home for Maud to take the lead. The clock ran down and Maud emerged victors in a game played in very difficult conditions. Next week Maud are away to former league champions Culter with a 2.30pm k.o.
