MAUD COUNT THE COST OF MISSED CHANCES.

Maud started lively in their last Grill league game and in the 4th minute good interlinking play between Willox and Rae who crossed in to the far post and knocked back into the danger area by Whyte only for Glentanner's defence to clear the danger. It took Glentanner til the 10th minute to finally get a shot on Maud's goals but it was well held by Simpson. Maud's first goal of the game was chalked off by the ref for being offside in the 15th minute from a crossed in ball from the left from a free kick. A great ball in from Willox found the unmarked Jamieson waiting to pounce in the middle but couldnt quite connect properly with the ball and spoiled the effort.  good build up from Maud saw a clearance by Glentanner fall to Whyte, passing onto Hart who flicked it in for the oncoming Walker. Sending in a low thundering shot it unfortunately riccocheted off a defender and was eventually cleared. A poor crossed in free kick from Glentanner from just inside their own half fell to Whyte of Maud. driving up the middle he sent a lovely ball through the defence to A Davidson who drove it across the goals to Jamieson who mistimed his shot  only for Hart to follow up and finish off the move to put Maud ahead. A minute later a superb shot from Whyte forced a great save from McLelland to concede a corner which came to nothing. In the dying minutes of the first half, a missed ball by Simpson was luckily headed past the right hand post by the Glentanner striker.

Maud looked a bit unsettled at the start of the second half and in the 48th minute Willox was replaced by Ballard. Ligertwood sent a shot over the bar from just inside the 18 yard box in the 49th minute. Stephen replaced Jamieson in the 57th minute. Glentanner broke up the right wing and sent in a cross only for it to be headed past the post. In the 58th minute Glentanner got the deserved equaliser from a cross in from the right was slotted home by Ward. Maud's best chance of the afternoon fell to Walker from a played through ball only for it to be sent past the post. In the 75th minute A Davidson was replaced by Stott. A good ball in from the right wing from Whyte was knocked on by Stephen to Ballard whose shot was held on the deck by McLelland. Winning a corner from the right, it was crossed in by Stott only for Stephen to head into the side netting. Dying minutes of the game saw some good ball work by Maud only to be spoiled by poor finishing. So the game ended in a draw and with quite a few of Maud's fringe players getting a good run out, Maud can look forward to the local derby game at home against Buchanhaven Hearts tonight Tuesday 18th August with a 6.45pm ko followed by away to Banchory St Ternan on Saturday 22nd Aug with a 2.30pm ko.
