My Match Report

With a few more of the team back today against a team at the bottom of the table we really needed to win today and we did !

The game really started off with a bang when after only 3 minutes we won a free kick around 20 yards out when Gibby was fouled. Gav hammered the it around the wall and into the net for a brilliant start, 1 - 0. After 7 minute a quickly taken throw in on the right was crossed into the box where a first time volley from Ush went over the bar and scared the seagulls ! Just after another chance when Razor cross the ball into the box again where Shaun headed wide when he had a great chance to score. On 15 minutes a Gibby cross found Ritchie but his header also went wide, Although we were creating chances the 2nd goal wasn’t coming and East End has a couple of guys up front who were causing a few problems. Puds had to make a great save on 18 minutes from point blank to stop the equaliser and another one just after when their No. 10 ran across the back 4 and his shot was saved. On 24 minutes another free kick out right was put into the box by Razor again but this time it was Danny’s turn to head over. Just after Richie ran past 3 defenders on the box and was taken down (see photo!) but the ref didn’t give the obvious penalty. Just after that we had another let off when their No 11 hit a shot when clean through but it his the foot of our post and was cleared. Just after that another shot was saved by Puds to really keep us in front. In the last 10 minutes Stevie Whyte almost doubled the lead first off when he turned and shot in the area but it was saved, then a long range who which was saved again. Apparently on the way in at half time the East End keeper was booked for something (mouthing probably) and it came back to bite him in the arse later !

After only 8 minutes of the 2nd half Puds mad another brilliant save when they broke through the middle and only had him to beat but he spread himself and saved a certain goal. 2 minutes later their keeper was sent off ! Even though they won a free kick in their own area, he kept mouthing to the ref and got the 2nd yellow, swiftly followed by one of their coaches and a torrent of abuse from their bench. God knows what the hell they were on cos they had already won the free kick !! Anyway down to 10 men and it gave us a change to push on. Just after a free kick by us was put into the box but the stand in keeper made a good save. The 2 more chances for Steve again, firstly a shot was hacked off the line then from a corner he headed narrowly over the bar. Then on 27 minutes the game was really settled, a long ball onto Shauns head came back out to Ush near the edge of their box and his volley back in was in the net before the keeper could move, 2 - 0 . 8 minutes later we got a corner on the right, Ush went to take it and put it straight into the goal for his 2nd and our 3rd ! Just before the end Ush had the chance to score his hat trick when Ross did well to win the ball and sent it over the defence to Ush on the edge of the box again totally unmarked but his first time volley was high over the bar. Finally the 4th goal did come though when ross himself latched onto a low ball crossed into the middle and he calmly sidefooted it home for 4 - 0.

A comfortable win in the end but when we were only 1 up it took a few great saves by Puds to keep us in front, next up Hall Russells away on Saturday and we really should be winning that !!

MAUD OVERCOME A DETERMINED 10 MAN EAST END

Straight from the start East End hurled themselves at Maud looking for the quick goal. That came at the other end when Maud in the 3rd minute won a free kick 22 yards out centre of goals. Middleton sent in a great curling shot around the wall and straight into the net leaving Barney helpless. After soaking up more pressure from East End, Maud won another free kick this time 21 yards out just left of the 18 yard line. Again Middleton stepped up and sent in a low shot which Jamieson failed to connect with at the far post. A great ball down the right wing was picked up by Stephen who sent in a lovely cross for Ligertwood to head past the corner of the right post. East End attacked up the middle and only a great save by Simpson from Smith kept Maud in front. Again East End attacked up the middle and this time Taylor got himself onto the edge of the 18 yard line before sending the diagonal shot narrowly past the far side post. A penalty claim from Maud were waved aside as Ligertwood went easily down inside the box. Maud survived a scare when a rocket of a shot flew back off the right post and was hastily scrambled clear. Again East End came forward and after doing the hard work Helson sent a weak shot past the left side of goals. Whyte sent in a long range shot which was easily held by Barney as Maud tried to up the tempo. East End won the first corner of the game in the dying minutes of the first half, crossed in it was twice scrambled clear by Maud's defence.

The second half resumed with East Ends goal keeper being booked at half time and Maud replacing Stephen and Glendinning with Ballard and McDonald. Reshuffling the team, Maud tried to consolidate their lead. A great save from Simpson in the 53rd minute as Smith again broke through Maud's defence to go one on one with Simpson. Two minutes later after winning a free kick inside their own box Barney received his second yellow and his marching orders followed shortly by one of the East End coaches for hotly disputing the decision. McDonald put in a late tackle and received a yellow card for his troubles. East End were forced to now reshuffle their team and send on the reserve keeper. Maud upped the tempo and forced a corner off a Whyte shot. Crossed in from the right flag it was headed over by Whyte. Finally in the 72nd minute a great ball out to Usher on the left who timed his shot perfectly to bury it into the top right corner of the net. In the 75th minute Jamieson was replaced by Walker. In the 80th minute Maud won a corner from the right. Usher sent in a great ball which flew past everyone, hit the far post and went into the net to seal the game for Maud. Maud were playing some good football now and a good ball crossed over by Walker to Usher out on the left side of the 18 yard box. Waiting for the ball to come down Usher finally connected but could only sent it high over the crossbar. Attacking up the right in the 89th minute the ball was crossed in along the edge of the 6 yard box for Walker to tap in from centre of the goal to put the game well beyond East End. A much better display all round this week with another 3 points on the board. Next week Maud are away to Hall Russell United with a 2.30pm K.O.
