Maud 2 - 4 Dyce

North Section Superleague

A few more changes today with holidays and guys coming back from injuries.

Unfortunately the game started off with a performance similar to a lot of last weeks game with too many of the players not looking up for the game at all. Despite and early cross from Stevie Whyte to Dane looking dangerous it came to nothing but after a bit of Dyce pressure, when the were far too quick and showed far more desire to get the ball Puds had to make a great save to turn it round for a corner, however when the corner came in, again we seemed to be sleeping and after one attempt was blocked it was followed up and buried into our net. They just seemed to want it more ! It took until the 21st minute when our first effort worthy of the name came when Richie tried a volley from the edge of the box but the keeper made an easy save. Just after we got a free kick in a great position near the edge of their box but Jason skied it high over the bar. Richie had another chance when, from a thow in Shaun played him in but the shot went over. Shaun was struggling following a cold and had to be replaced with Gibby on 33 minutes which was a shame because Shaun had been brilliant last week but was obviously out of sorts today. The 10 minutes from half time they got a corner that was cleared upfield, everyone followed theball out but it was hit high back to our goal where unfortunately it was allowed to bounce and Puds was short so their forward nickin and and headed it over him and into the net for their 2nd. That was the last real effort before half time, unfortunately ours had been noticable only by their absence !

With a few fleas in ears at half time it was hoped things would improve and after 12 minutes things Richie cut inside the left back and crossed towards Dane but the defender got to the ball first to head behind for a corner. From the corner it came out to Gavin but his shot goalwards was blocked. After more pressure on 16 minutes we pulled a goal back when Kev headed the ball onto Dane on the left of the box, he shot across but it was cleared out to Richie who laid a great ball to his right to Gibby who buried it , 1 - 2. We should have really gone for the jugular but joined up football was still missing even if the effort was up. The next chance was another 10 minutes later when Richie again went down the right and put it into jas but his shot was cleared for a corner, that corner was played quickly by Stevie onto Richies head but it want narrowly over. That was a false dawn ! They got a free kick near the right hand corner and it went right over everyone to one of their guys near the far post where he seemed to be unchallenged to bury it into the net. That seemed to be it for us, then right at the death they broke on our right, the ball was played simply across to an incoming forward who easily converted. Then we scored our 2nd when the ball went wide left to Zander who crossed right onto Danes head and made no mistake,

And that was that!!

Very dissapointing but we got what we deserved for the overall performance, nowt !

Match Stats

MAUD DYCED UP AND SPAT OUT.

Starting on the attack, within the first few minutes Maud created 3 chances, two which were deemed offside and one went to a goal kick that should have been a corner. From there on it went down hill as several Maud players switched off and went into cruise mode. Constant pressure from Dyce finally paid off when Simpson failed to clear a parried ball allowing Reid to bury the follow up in the 9th minute. Maud's first goal from Whyte was chalked off for being apparently offside. Winning a free kick out on the right, Maud failed to capitalise as the Dyce defence stood firm and dealt with the danger. Good holding play just outside the box by Norris who won a free kick off the harsh tackle, but McDonald could only blast over the bar. A great ball from Middleton out on the left wing over to the far post but Whyte couldn't get a touch and another chance went wasted. In the 33rd minute Maud were forced to replace Jamieson with Stephen who hadn't been able to shake off the flu virus. Dyce stepped up a gear and a long ball up the middle caught out a lethargic Powell. Bouncing between Powell and the out coming Simpson, Reid managed to get in between them and connect enough to force the ball into the net in the 36th minute. Maud tried in vane to get back into the game and again a dubious offside decision in the 44th minute denied Stephen a chance on goal.

Maud started the second half slowly and were second to nearly every ball. No chances were being created and the final touch was poor. Finally it started come together for Maud when at last good interlinking play gave Ballard a chance on goal. His powerful hit shot in was blocked as far as Ligertwood who set up Stephen to finish off well to pull one back in the 61st minute. Maud survived a scare when a poor pass back was collected by the Dyce striker only for Powell to get a foot in front of the shot and the danger was averted. Good play by Ligertwood who got a cross in to the front of goal for McDonald but the keeper parried the shot and with no one following up the chance was wasted. Winning a corner, it was crossed in only for Ligertwood to head a fraction over the bar. Dyce were unlucky not to add to their tally as only a poor final shot straight in front of goals flashed past the left post. Maud wasted another corner as the cross in went straight into the keepers hands. Poor defending by Maud allowed Dyce to get a cross in to the far post which bundled off Powell only to be met by Walker who finished the shot off well for Dyce to regain the two goal advantage. In the first few seconds of injury time Dyce managed to break up the left and send in a cross in to midfield for the unmarked Lamberty to put the game beyond Maud. From the restart Maud launched themselves upfield and the crossed in ball was well headed into the net by Ballard to make the score line a little bit more presentable. A very poor performance today with little effort from several players, looking forward to next weeks home game against Lewis Utd in the Interregional cup with a 2.15 k.o. followed by the following week away against Bonnyrigg Rose in the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup.

I’d like to thank Ted Bartlett again for the action shot from todays game, it took some doing to find one Ted!

HOWEVER, I had to put the 2nd one on or I’d be accused of self censoring this site (which is a bloody good idea!) luckily my fat arm was also hiding most of my fat belly, thanks Ted !!!

I’m not sure red suits me actually !
