Maud 3 - 0 Fraserburgh Utd
Maud 3 - 0 Fraserburgh Utd
With a good pre-season behind us, the lads began their first competitive game of the season against a Broch team who were always going to be up for it.
It certainly proved the case in the first 10 minutes or so because after an initial burst from the guys, a bit of sloppy passing and loose play allowed the Broch to get more of the ball and force us back a bit, that is not allowed guys !
However we started to push forward a bit and Iain almost got a goal when a corner from the left went to the far post where he was unmarked but his header came off the post.
After 10 minutes, Capt’n Puds had to make a great diving save to his right to keep the ball out after a loose ball in the middle was picked up by them.
The lads did start to push forward more then, with Gav (in the most horrendously WHITE boots I have ever seen!) got the ball about 25 yards out and hit a ball that the keeper held onto.
Just after, a long high ball from Puds was collected by Ush and immediately controlled (he did this a few times today, smart arse!) the ball, cut inside and hit a low shot wide.
Another couple of minutes later, John Willox got the ball about 30 yards out, turned his man and laid the ball off to Ush again and ran into the box and just when he looked like he would score, he passed it back to their keeper, except it wasn’t even that powerful !
An almost identical move on 16 minutes ended with a better shot but this time the keeper did save it.
However on 19 minutes he did get the goal his overall play deserved. We got corner and it was whipped in brilliantly by Mark Campbell (know in the future as Keeble, don’t ask me why!) onto Iains head in the middle of the goal, it actually flew off their keepers head back out again cos he didn’t know where the ball was, it then fell right at Ushers feet and he leathered it into the net for a deserved lead.
On 23 minutes Ush again got a shot away but the keeper again denied him. On 26 minutes we showed a lack of concentration when they got time on the ball just outside our box when their No. 10 took his time to hit a great shot that only just went over the bar.
On 29 minutes, after a bit of play between razor and Bruce, Bruce eventually hit a long cross ball into their box right onto Kevins head, but just when it looked like a formality to bury it, it wasn’t !
10 minutes from half time Ush won the ball down the left, went past the full back to the bye line and put a low hard ball across into the box but nobody could get on the end of it.
Just on half time, Dane got the ball about 20 yards out, took it inside but his low shot was saved.
So half time and although we led, it should have been more.
After only 2 minutes of the 2nd half Dane won the ball in the middle but was taken down, as I was watching him clutch his ankle I missed the soddin goal ! Apparently Ush scored his second but sorry mate, I missed it cos I had my First Aid head on !!
Anyway a 2 goal lead was the least we deserved at that point but the game wasn’t over quite yet.
After 10 minutes the game was really over, Jas took a thrown near their corner on the left to John Willox, he held it up, turned like only Jinksy can, and put a great ball over to the goal area, it was cleared but only to Jas who somehow had appeared in the middle of the goal after taking the throw in and he just hammered it into the net ! 3 - 0, thank you very much !
On 15 minutes Gav let his boots get the better of him and tried an overhead attempt at goal, which, not surprisingly missed !!
On 25 minutes a great bit of interplay between Razor on the right, to Gav in the middle and then he played it into the box, to Kev, who dummied it and it ran through to Ush who’s hard low shot was hacked away.
On the half hour Gav took a free kick onto Shauns head but it went over the bar.
With 10 minutes to go Zander got the ball wide right, ran past the defended into the box and paid a high cross into the box, for some reason the defender punched it clear !
Defo pen, so Dane strode up and hammered the ball right down the middle, unfortunately the keeper hadn’t moved and managed to save it, never mind mate, you’ll get plenty more.
So that was it, the first game of the new regime and with a lot of potential showing, and still lots of players missing today it was pleasing to come through with a clean sheet and 3 points.
Next up is Lewis United in the Super League, at home on Tuesday with a 7.15pm kick off.

My Unbiased Report
Grahams proper Report !
In the first seven minutes Maud looked a bit nervous as Fraserburgh flung themselves forward looking for the first goal. Winning a free kick in the 7th minute, it was crossed in but Maud's defence easily dealt with the danger. Maud were unlucky a minute later when a corner from the right crossed in by Campbell was headed off the post by Arthur. Bouncing back up field Lawrence of Fraserburgh forced a great save from Simpson in Maud's goal from the edge of the 18 yard box. In the 16th minute great play from between Willox and Usher was spoiled from Ushers weak shot straight into the keepers hands. Winning a corner in the 19th minute, again crossed in to the far post for again Arthur to rise above and head straight at the keeper. Deflected back out Usher from close range made no mistake to put Maud into the lead. Usher was unlucky a few minutes later when Dunbar saved his powerful shot. Launching an attack back up field Cowe of Fraserburgh sent in a rocket of a shot which flew just over the bar. A long ball played from just inside Fraserburgh's half from B Davidson was headed just past the far post by Norris. The first half drew to a close with neither team finishing off several chances.
Almost immediately from the restart Maud attacked up field and a bone crunching tackle between Ballard and Clark saw the ball go out wide. Crossing it back in, it was latched onto by Usher who doubled his tally for the afternoon. Maud added a third from a free kick from just inside Fraserburgh's half but it was deemed to be offside and chalked off. Finally in the 55th minute Maud's persistence paid off. Great ball work out on the right from Willox who turned his marker and sent in a lovely ball for McDonald to connect perfectly on the volley and send it straight into the back of the net. A flurry of yellow cards was followed by Maud replacing Willox with Jamiesom in the 67th minute. Ballard was unlucky after beating a couple of defenders and sending in a lobbed shot over the keeper but it was too high and went out for a goal kick. A Maud corner was crossed in and under pressure Jamieson could only head over the bar. In the 77th minute Maud replaced McDonald and Middleton for Ligertwood and A Davidson who immediately was involved on the right wing and sent in a lovely ball to Ballard at the far post only for R Noble to knock it out with his hand. The ref immediately pointed to the penalty spot and booked Noble for his trouble. Ballard elected to take the spot kick himself and sent in a low shot to the right only for Dunbar to guess correctly and deny him the goal. The last 10 minutes were all Maud as they knocked the ball around but couldn't add to the tally. A good win today from a decent performance by Maud sets them up nicely for the first league game on Tuesday night against Lewis United with a 7.15pm KO followed by a home game on Saturday against Hermes with a 2.30pm KO.
