Parkvale 1 - 8 Maud

Rainbow International Superleague

My Match Report

With a solid performance being us from last week and confidence high after progressing to the next round of the Scottish Cup, Kris started with the same team for this game against the Leagues bottom club.

The game started off slowly but after only 4 minutes a late challenge by Jason seemed to flatten one of their defenders, he went down quickly and it was obvious he was in trouble, After a stoppage of 5 minutes he was stretchered off (for a 45 minute wait for the Ambulance) with a suspected broken leg, hopefully it wasn't that and he recovers quickly. After that though lots of players were holding back from challenges and it made a pretty for a poor performance, iot was compounded after 10 minutes when  a simple cross into our box from the left was met by their No. 6 who easily beat Paul in goal to put them 1 - 0 up, this was not on the script ! Zander had a chance to equalise a few minutes later but his free kick was easily held and then Ian Murray had a shot that was just wide of the left hand post. Zander was getting a bit more freedom down the left and after 20 minutes one of his runs was finished off with a low cross into the box that was diverted into the net by one of their defenders before we could get to it, 1 - 1. Ritchie had a chance after 25 minutes following real good interplay down the right but it want over. We were starting to pick it up a bit without really making any clear cut chances until the 41st minute when for the next 8 minutes al hell broke loose ! First of all Molby got the ball on the right after soem more good interplay, his ball into the box was met by Gibby who headed it into the net, 2 -1. A minute later Paul hoofed a long ball up front, it was collected by Molby and immediately put to Zander who pulled it back to Gibby to score his 2nd  in 2 minutes, 3 -1. Two minutes later and they were all over the place when Stevie Powell crossed the ball for Molby but his header was saved. A couple of minutes later however Molby scored when another run and cross by Zander on the left was buried into the net, 4 - 1. The fist half was rounded off nicely when another run into the box by Zander saw him flattened and the ref gave the panalty. Despite Jason saying he was going to take the pens before the game, he gave up to Molby who wanted to score another, which he did, 5 - 1 !!  Quite a few minutes at the end of the first half and we really didn't want it to end, but it did :-)

The 2nd half started off and again we looked a bit lethargic, Paul had to be on his toes to save well after only 2 minutes from a shot outside the box. After 14 minutes Molby showed some great footwork down the right to waltz past a couple of defenders, his low cross whizzed across the goal line without being met by anyone. He then had a header off the post from a great cross by Stevie Whyte but a minute later Zander fed Molby and his ball to Ritchie was buried for our 6th goal. After 32 minutes another good run down the right by Stevie Whyte results in another great cross right in front of the goal but again we missed it. Stevie crossed again in the 36th minute  but Molby had to turn to retrieve it, as he did so he was tripped and the ref pointed to the spot again. This time Molby hit the post with the penalty and it was cleared. Not for long though because from a corner on the right by Gav, the ball was crossed into the box where and other sub, John Willox, powered a great header into the net, 7 - 1. The final goal came in the final minute when Gav again crossed this time to Molby who copied Willox and headed his final goal of the day, 8 - 1 and a really fantastic attacking performance despite the dodgy start.

It sets us up nicely for next weeks derby against Longside, 1:45pm kick off at home.

Grahams Match Report

MAUD IN 8 GOAL BLITZ

After a slow start in the first few minutes, a late tackle by McDonald led to Essolment being strechered off with a suspected broken ankle. After a delay od approx five minutes the game then restarted. As Maud were wary of putting in tackles Parkvale capitalised on this and a good run up the left was crossed in and into the net by Stewart in the 10th minute. Maud wasted a chance to equalise when a free kick was launched in by A Davidson but was well held by Omond. A good mazy run up the middle by Murray ended when his flicked shot in went narrowly past the left post. A rude awakening for Maud when Birnie found himself acres of room only to see his shot go past the right post. In the 20th minute a great run up the left by A Davidson whose cross into the box went into the net off of Middler, a lucky equaliser for Maud. After a series of corners which Maud could not convert, they found themselves under pressure at their end when a scrambled goal line clearance was finally gathered up by Leask. Finally Maud broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when a good ball up the right onto Murray who sent in an inch perfect cross for Stephen to nod into the back of the net. Two minutes later Stephen had doubled his tally when again a lovely ball played into the penalty area by Murray was tapped into the net. Maud stamped their mark on the game when in the 42nd minute another good run up the left by A Davidson whose cross into the danger area was calmly finished off by Murray. Well into injury time Maud further increased their lead when a cross in from Usher to A Davidson who was taken down inside the box. Penalty, up stepped Murray who buried for his second of the day.

At half time Usher was replaced by Whyte as the game started off the same as the first half. Only a fortunate save on the line by Leask denied Parkvale the chance to pull one back. Ligertwood was then replaced by Willox. Good interlinking play between Stephen and Murray led to Murray claiming his hat trick in the 65th minute. Maud were fired up now and only poor finishing kept the score down. Middleton replaced Stephen. A good long ball out to Whyte who ran it to the corner flag before crossing it in front of the goals but no one could get a foot onto it to finish off. Parkvale not to be outdone kept pressing forwards and McPhee was unlucky not to score as his shot shaved past the post. A good cross in by Whyte was picked up by Murray who was flattened for his trouble, another penalty. Murray elected to take it himself but this time after sending the keeper the wrong way his shot came off the left post and was cleared. In the 85th minute a run up the right was crossed in and flicked in off the head of Willox for goal number seven. Maud finished off the rout in the 89th minute when again a cross in by Middleton straight onto the head of Murray who made no mistake this time. Finishing the game on a high Maud ran out worthy winners and now look forward with confidence to next Saturdays derby game against Longside with a 1.45pm kick off.
