Maud 5 - 1 Longside

Rainbow International Superleague

My Match Report

What a good game, eh, eh, eh !!

Needless to say the lads were well up for this one, not only because it was Longside but also because if we won today we would go top of the League, the Superleague, how soddin good does that sound!

We started off really well, with a horrible firdt 38 minutes at Parkvale behind us, this time the lads came flying out of the blocks with Gibby trying to score against his old team in the first minute with a long range volley but it went wide. Just after he knocked the ball onto Ian Murray but his attempted lob was saved from under the bar. A minute later Ush had an effort from 20 yards that was on tagert but was deflected wide for a corner. It wasn't long before the first goal came though when from a corner on the right, Zander whipped a low ball into the box and it was missed by all their defenders, hitting the far post and going in, 1 - 0 and a great start. After 11 minutes they nearly pulled it back level when a misunderstanding in our box from a long high ball resulted ibn the ball just missing our post. Just after Ush put another great ball into the box but Molbys resulting shot was saved. Gibby then knocked yet another ball onto Molby but the long range lob was was easily held by the keeper. After 17 minutes a great run down the right by Stevie Whyte took him into their box where he laid it across perfectly to Molby to finish it off, 2 - 0. Four minutes later the game was effectively over for them when Molby collected the ball in the middle about 25 yards out and threaded a perfect ball inside the defenders to Stevie again and his shot looked to have gone in but was stopped on the line bya defender, however Gibby was on hand to pop it into the net for the goal he really wanted, 3 - 0.  There were a few more chances up to half time, Molby's free kick that was just wide beign the closest we came to a 4th and Paul had to make a great one handed save to keep his clean sheet but otherwise it was good stuff.

We didn't want to let the pace stop but unfortunately it did for a short time, it wasn't until the 20th minute that we got another when Gibby collected the ball wide right, his cross into the box was only partially cleared out to Ritchie who pounced on it and finished it off for 4 - 0.  After 33 minutes we got another corner following a shot from Ush, this time it was taken short and crossed where it was bundled across the line by Zander (sorry, I mean blasted!) for this 2nd of the day, 5 - 0.Molby had a headed chance that was saved near the end and they got a consolation goal at the death but otherwise it was a brilliant result, putting Maud top of the SuperLeague for the first time ever, yet another history making weekend for Kris, Billy, Jonny and the team.

Grahams Match Report

MAUD OUT ON TOP IN LOCAL DERBY
Maud started briskly and in the fourth minute of this local derby a lovely ball from Stephen onto Murray whose shot was tipped over for a corner to nothing. Eventually after some sustained attacking, Maud forced a corner from the right. Crossed in Longside looked on in horror as it went in off Hay in the 6th minute. Longside on the attack through a run up the right by Cardno past his marker and faced Leask in goals. Jinxing past Maud's keeper, he fired in the shot into the side netting. As Longside kept up the pressure Maud kept in front with some scrambled clearances. A free kick won by Longside about 30 yards out was thundered past the right post by Reid. A good run down the right by Whyte was finished off with a cross into Murray for Maud's second in 21 minutes. A long ball upfield to Murray onto Whyte whose final shot was punched by Simpson off the post and tapped in by Stephen in the 26th minute for Maud's third. A penalty cry from Maud as Murray was taken down in the box was waved aside by the ref much to Maud's disgust. First yellow fell to Reid of Longside for dissent. Leask saved Maud's blushes with a great reaction save as Longside broke through Maud's defence to win a corner which came to nothing. As Forbes received a yellow for a tackle on Usher, Murray stepped up but his shot went over the wall and out past the post. Going into half time a comfortable three goals up Maud were looking forward to the second half.
Longside started the second half the stronger and came close within minutes of pulling one back. Again Longside were suffering for poor finishing as another shot at goals went high over the bar. After successfully defending a free kick, Longside managed to break up the right but pushed the ball too far in front. Leask alert in goals came out to meet it and blasted it straight into the oncoming player leaving him in need of attention. Again as a high ball in from the corner was well met by Leask in goals keeping Maud well in front. Confusion in Longsides box was punished from a cross in from Stephen cleared to Ligertwood who made no mistake for Maud's fourth. in the 65th minute. Maud replaced Ligertwood with Willox. Maud winning a corner crossed the ball in and Longside again only cleared as far as A Davidson whose low hard driven shot flew into the back of the net for the fifth of the afternoon in the 77th minute. Running down the clock Maud replaced both A Davidson and Whyte for Middleton and Pirie. A free kick won by Longside on the left side of the 18 yard line was crossed in and headed past Leask by C Davidson for a consolation goal. The game finally ground to a halt with Maud emerging worthy winners. We can now look to next weeks game against Formartine at home with a 1.45pm kick off.
