Hillhead 1 - 3 Maud
Rainbow International Superleague
Grahams Report
MAUD PILE ON THE
MISERY FOR HILLHEAD
Both teams started slowly until the 6th minute when A Davidson picked up a pass
from Midleton and cutting into the box was promptly taken down by the keeper. Up
came Murray and sot low left. The keeper guessed correctly and got a hand onto
the ball but the power of the shot saw it hit the back of the net. Maud should
have doubled their tally a few minutes later when a cross into the box was
cleared out by Allan with no strikers attacking the ball. Maud were awarded a
free kick in line with the 18 yard box 22 yards out. Taken by McDonald and
pushed past the left side of the wall, it was picked up by A Davidson who shot
low under the keeper to double Mauds tally in the 14th minute. Hillhead force a
corner of Arthur but the delivery into the box was well held by Leask. Good play
by Murray got himself into the 18 yard box. Passing along the line to Willox who
was hustled off the ball losing possession. A studs up challenge on Powell saw
Murray of Hillhead receive a yellow. A good piece of brave goal keeping by
Thouless as Willox bore down on goals saw him prevent the scoring chance but
injure himself in the process requiring hospital treatment. Maud were punished
for a pass back which Leask picked up giving away a free kick just outside the 6
yard line. With a six man wall, the shot was well blocked and cleared up field.
A golden chance to add to the tally was destroyed by the far assistant when
Willox passed along the 18 yard line to A Davidson who was deemed to be offside.
Clearly the assistant did not see the two defenders standing on the goal line
covering their keeper. Again Willox picked up a good ball from the midfield and
went one on one with the keeper. Rushing his shot he watched in horror as it
went out past the right post. As A Davidson slipped past his marker a good bit
of defending saw Allan clear off the line. Half time came and Maud went in two
goals up and controlling the game.
Maud started the better of the two teams and in the 53rd minute a corner from
the left was crossed in and struggling to bring the ball down, Murray sent in a
shot that was blocked and cleared out as far A Davidson. Connecting beautifully
his thundering shot went in but rattled the corner of the crossbar and out for a
goal kick. Maud came under pressure when Willox lost possession at the half way
line causing McDonald to commit the foul earning a yellow. Launching in the free
kick it was cleared for a corner which was crossed in and headed of the deck and
over the bar. In the 58th minute Stewart was replaced by Hendry. Maud gave away
several needless free kicks followed by an injured Middleton being replaced by
Ligertwood in the 66th minute. Two minutes later Willox was replaced by A Whyte.
As Hillhead launched an attack up the left wing. Cutting inside he was taken
down inside the box for a penalty. Guessing correctly Leask was unable to stop
the shot from Morrice for Hillhead to pull one back in the 72nd minute. Good
defending by Powell denied Hillhead the equaliser. Maud soaked up the pressure
from Hillhead and finally managed to break out to Ligertwood whose run into the
box saw him taken down by Anderson for Mauds second penalty. Receiving a yellow
for his trouble, Daglish joined him in the book for dissent. Up stepped and made
no mistake in the 81st minute to increase Mauds lead. B Davidson gave away a
silly free kick in a dangerous position but it was well stopped by the wall.
Maud survive a couple of well crossed in corners but the final touch let
Hillhead down. Murray was unlucky in the dying minutes as Maud finally ran out
victorious. A decent performance today kept Mauds league position safe for
another week so they now look forward to next week at home against league
leaders Banks O Dee with a 2.30pm kick off.
