Maud 2 - 0 Dyce
Rainbow International Superleague
My Match Report
With a really good win behind us from last week, we had to keep the form going if we wanted to beat Dyce today and we started off really well when after only 1 minute, Jas got the ball on the edged of their box, turned the defender and was brought down right on the line. Gav's free kick didn't trouble the keeper and hit the wall and was cleared. We were really pushing hard and the only thing that was missing was a shot on target. After 6 minutes we nearly blew it because a long ball over our defence meant Mark had to run out of goal and head the ball clear outside the box, it fell to them but wasn't put back into the box quickly enough to bother us. After 21 minutes John Willox got the ball across the box to Stevie Whyte but his shot was dragged wide of the goal. After 26 minutes it look like they'd scored when the ball was fed across our back line outside the box, it was taken wide by their No. 9 and he unleashed a shot that really should have gone in but it smacked off the bar and bounce out, a let off. Just on the half hour Zander nicked the ball on the left off their defenders and took it into the box but his low hard centre was hacked clear. A great move after 31 minutes started on the right with a ball from Ush down the line to Stevie Whyte who crossed first time onto Gibby's head right in them middle of the goal but his header drifted wide. On 39 minutes we got a free kick wide right, Zander dropped a great ball into the box where Gibby flew like an Eagle (not a bald Eagle Les!) to beat the keeper to the ball and bury it into the net, 1 - 0 to us. Just before half time Stevie Powell dropped a short ball into the box where both Gibby and John Willox tried to get a shot away but it was hacked clear again.
After only a minute of the 2nd half a ball into the box from Ush found Zander but his neat shot close in was turned away by the keeper. Ush then gave the ball to Gav and his pass to Zander again resulted in his shot being saved. After 10 minutes Ush got the ball from a short corner but it was over the bar. After 15 minutes it looked like a clear penalty when Willox got the ball with his back to goal and appeared to be hauled down, the ref didn't give it though and John said later it was outside the box anyway. Sometime later Dyce were reduced to 10 men when one of their players was dismissed for a 2nd yellow. With 20 minutes to go the game was really over when Zander collected a bad goal kick and ran at the defence, he got into the box on the left and crossed to Gibby who buried it for his 2nd goal. With 15 minutes to go it looked like we'd scored a 3rd when Zander went on a great run down the left ghosting past loads of defenders, then past the keeper and just when it looked like he'd scored, he didn't ! The lads kept working away against a hard working dyce team but didn't really look in any danger and the final whistle went with another 3 points in the baggie !
Grahams Report
MAUD TAKE THE POINTS AGAINST 10
MAN DYCE
In the first minute, Maud were awarded a free kick on the edge of the 18 yard
line as McDonald was brought crashing down. Middleton's shot was blasted into
the wall and cleared upfield. Kerr in Maud's goal was alert in the 6th minute as
he headed a long punted in ball clear just outside his 18 yard box. Running back
he got himself positioned before the follow up could be sent in. Whyte was
unlucky with his shot after Willox had done the hard part setting him up. A
couple of yellows were then handed out to Dyce for players arguing with the ref.
Dyce missed a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 27th minute when a ball
in past Maud's back four was picked up by Edene. Running out wide he unleashed
his shot which rattled the bar and was cleared out by the defence. Maud's first
decent chance came from a cross from Whyte out on the right, but Stephen could
only head past the post. Two minutes later a free kick won by Usher and taken by
A Davidson was inch perfect onto Stephen's head to be buried into the net for
Maud to take the lead. In the dying minutes of the first half, Maud nearly
doubled their tally when Powell dropped a ball into the penalty area but some
good goal keeping and a scrambled clearance denied Stephen and Willox their
chances.
Murray of Dyce could count himself lucky to escape a red for a very rash tackle
from behind within minutes of the game restarting. A poorly kicked clearance by
Arthur was nearly converted by Cunningham but Maud survived the scare. A quickly
taken corner to Usher was launched in but was too powerful a shot and flew over
the bar. As Dyce break through Maud's defence, good play by Powell saved the
day. Cook committed a foul and received his second yellow and a red reducing
Dyce to 10 men. Pressure by Maud finally paid off when an excellent run up the
left by A Davidson after collecting a poor clearance, saw him put in a superb
cross for Stephen to finish off for Maud to double their tally in the 69th
minute. A few minutes later A Davidson was unlucky to see his final shot fly
into the side netting after leaving two defenders standing and side stepping the
keeper. Maud failed to convert any more of the chances they created against a
Dyce side who kept plugging away right up to the final whistle. Running out
winners and starting to string a couple of wins together, Maud now look forward
to their away game at Formartine on the 19th April with a 2.30 pm kick off. Bus
leaves Maud at 12.30pm.
